Calanthe species -- Bloom time: Early Spring. Calanthe species are evergrgeen shade plants native to Asia. They produce spectacular multiple 1 1/2 to 2 inch flowers on spikes over 12 inches tall. All are considered to be easily grown in well-drained, lightly shaded gardens. Hardy in USDA Zones 7-9 and into zone 6 with winter protection. All are sold as mature crowns.
